3 Simple Ways to Reset Spiritually

When You Feel Disconnected from God

You’re not as far from God as you feel. Let’s be honest—sometimes, even as a follower of Jesus, you just feel off. Your faith feels flat. Your prayers feel quiet. And even though you know God hasn’t left, He feels… distant.

If you’ve ever whispered, “Lord, where are You?”—you’re not alone.

We all go through moments like this. You’re tired. Life is full. You keep showing up, but spiritually, you feel like you’re running on fumes. And that’s where a spiritual reset comes in. It can be a gentle way to come back to what matters most.

Here are three simple ways you can begin to reconnect with God—starting right where you are.

1. Create Space to Be Still

When stillness feels uncomfortable, you need a reset. You keep moving, scrolling, or working, but your spirit feels dry. When that happens, the most powerful thing you can do is stop.

Jesus did this often. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed”(Luke 5:16 NIV). He made space for connection in quiet places to give unhurried time in the presence of the Father.

You can, too.

  • Find five minutes today.
  • Sit quietly—no phone, no to-do list.
  • Simply say, “God, I’m here. I want to be close to You.”

Let the silence settle your soul. Don’t rush it.

You’re making space to simply be with God.

“The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him” (Habakkuk 2:20 NIV).

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7 ESV).

2. Pray One Honest Prayer

When you feel disconnected, you may not know what to pray. That’s okay. Start small. Be real. God doesn’t need a polished prayer—He just wants your heart. The psalmist wrote, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18 NIV).

Here are few ideas for what you might say:

  • “God, I miss You.”
  • “Lord, I want to feel close again.”
  • “Help me hear You today.”

In 2 Chronicles, we see what happens when God’s people turn to Him. “But whenever they were in trouble and turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him out, they found him” (2 Chronicles 15:4 NLT).

No elaborate words. Just seeking—and He was found.

David prayed from a place of brokenness. He said, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10 NIV). That one-sentence prayer can be your reset, too.

3. Say Yes to One Act of Obedience

Sometimes, the best way to reconnect with God isn’t through what you feel—it an be through what you do. When you feel spiritually stuck, take a step in the right direction. Say yes to something God’s already put on your heart.

Maybe it’s:

  • Opening your Bible again.
  • Texting someone a word of encouragement.
  • Forgiving someone.
  • Worshiping with one song.
  • Saying “no” to something that’s pulling you away.
  • Stepping outside and thanking God for something you see.

Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23 ESV). Obedience opens the door to connection. Even if it’s just one step—take it.

When you move toward God, He always meets you there.

You were created for connection with God—and He delights when you turn your heart toward Him. Every moment you reach for Him matters. Every whisper of faith draws His presence closer.

Whether your spirit feels strong today or stretched thin, God hasn’t moved. He’s still here, ready to meet you in the middle of your ordinary day. So go ahead—breathe. Be still. Come close.

  • Create a moment of quiet with Him.
  • Speak a simple, honest prayer.
  • Say yes to one small act of obedience.

Each one invites His peace and presence in a deeper way. Remember, as you “Come close to God, and God will come close to you” (James 4:8 NLT).

When you turn your heart toward Him, you’ll find He’s already reaching for you. Will you choose one of these reset steps and let it be your turning point.
