God, Stir My Heart
God moves us in our heart to do good. It may begin as a thought or feeling and grow into a desire. It may be something new, that you never thought about before, or it may be a dream that you’ve had since you were a child.
It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
─ Philippians 2:13 ESV
The Apostle Paul reminds us in the verse above that it is God who compels you to do what pleases Him. As you grow in your relationship with Him, your ways of thinking come into agreement with His Word. God works on your attitude, beliefs and desires, changing the intentions of your soul.
Pleasing God starts in the heart.
In the book of Ezra, King Cyrus declared the Israelites free and proclaimed they could return home to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. After years of captivity, their hearts were humbled. “God stirred the hearts of the priests and Levites and the leaders of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple of the Lord” (Ezra 1:5 NLT).
Pleasing God starts in the heart. As you willingly surrender your own desires to please Him, you may find that what He has set in your heart to do is exactly what you always dreamed of. It will definitely take faith to achieve whatever He has for you. It always takes faith to please God.
Today’s One Thing
Pray this prayer today:
Heavenly Father, thank you for stirring my heart. I humbly ask that you lead and direct me in the path you have set before me. I lay down my own desires today and ask that you show me what you desire me to do that will bring glory and pleasure to you!
