What Your Time Can Mean to Others
A little bit of your time can mean the world to someone.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
– Hebrews 6:10 NIV
Apollos was an eloquent man who also happened to be a friend of the apostle Paul. He knew the Scriptures and was passionate about teaching what he’d learned. He was teaching boldly in the synagogue when Priscilla and Aquila, a couple in the early church, heard him. As they listened to Apollos speak, they realized he was missing some of the information about the resurrection of Christ.
In Acts 18:26, it says Priscilla and Aquila pulled Apollos aside and privately explained the rest of the story to him. Maybe they invited him to their home for dinner and sat down to talk about these important matters. The Bible doesn’t say, but they took the time to talk with him through friendship and gentle, loving guidance. They didn’t embarrass him in front of everyone and let it be known they knew more.
This gentle instruction only takes up one sentence in the book of Acts, but it had great ramifications as this well-spoken man went on to spread the Good News of Jesus. “He powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing through Scriptures Jesus was the Christ (Acts 18:28 ESV).”
Trust your gift of time to have far reaching effects on others.
In the busyness of your schedule, you may not always think it matters that you took the time to talk to someone. But for that person it may mean the world that you cared enough to sit and listen and, quite possibly, direct them to the Truth.
Today’s One Thing
Who is God leading you to spend some time with today? You may just listen, or you may gently encourage or instruct, but either way, your time is valuable and will be well spent.
