Finding Your Quiet Time with God
“I’d get up at five o’clock in the morning, which I do not love to do especially as an artist. But I knew I had to do that if I wanted to get in the Word and to have my prayer time during that season of Covid with the kids at home.” ~Mac Powell
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.
– Ephesians 5:15-16 NLT
Life is full of disruptions, isn’t it? Just when you think you’ve got your routine down, something changes. Mac Powell found himself in that same boat, especially during the Covid times when his kids were home all day. His usual time for prayer and diving into God’s Word was interrupted, but he didn’t let that stop him. He got up when the world around him was still, to connect with God.
Verses like the one for today encourage us to be wise in how we live. Sometimes making the most of your opportunities means waking up while it’s still dark outside, just so you can have those few precious moments with the Lord.
You might be facing similar interruptions. Maybe it’s not a pandemic but a new job, a family crisis, or even a good thing like a new relationship. These changes can throw off your spiritual routine. But what if, like Mac, you adapted? What if you carved out a new time, a new space, and told yourself, “This is where I meet God”?
God will always meet you where you are.
The amazing thing is, God will meet you there. He honors our efforts to seek Him. Mac even mentioned that he grew to love those early mornings, and you might find the same. There’s a unique peace in being the only one awake, in sitting with God while the rest of the world sleeps. It’s a peace Jesus knew well, often retreating to lonely places to talk to His Father (Luke 5:16).
And don’t worry if it’s hard at first. Mac didn’t love those 5 a.m. wake-up calls initially, but he stuck with it because he knew the value. You’ll find that it gets easier, and you may even start to crave that special time.
So, are you willing to set your alarm a little earlier or find that quiet corner in your busy day? Trust me, the peace and wisdom you’ll gain from those intentional moments with God will be worth every second.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: “Lord, I confess that I’ve let life’s disruptions pull me away from You. I commit to making time to meet You, even if it means waking up earlier or adjusting my schedule. Help me to be consistent, to make the most of every opportunity to grow closer to You. Thank you for always meeting me where I am. Amen.”
