God’s Awe-inspiring Character

Life is full of questions, and as believers, we often yearn for answers to the mysteries that surround us. We want to understand God’s plans, His ways, and the reasons behind the events in our lives. But not everything is meant to be revealed.

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

—Deuteronomy 29:29 ESV

While some things remain hidden, God provides us with enough knowledge to love Him and live according to His will. Scripture and nature both testify to God’s character. When we read the Bible, we uncover the depths of His love, justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Nature, too, speaks of His greatness and creativity. The intricate details of creation, from the vastness of the universe to the delicate petals of a flower, all point to our loving Designer.

And even though we marvel at these revelations, we must also recognize that not everything is disclosed to us. This can be challenging, especially when we face trials and uncertainties. We may wonder why certain prayers seem unanswered or why we go through difficult seasons. In these moments, our faith is stretched as we learn to trust in God’s sovereignty and wisdom.

Find comfort in knowing that God reveals what you need, while some mysteries remind you to trust in His greater plan.

The verse from Deuteronomy reassures us that while God keeps some secrets to Himself, He has also given us clear instructions and promises to guide our lives. These revelations are meant to sustain us, providing the wisdom and strength we need for our journey. They help us know Him more deeply, love Him more fervently, and follow Him more closely.

Take a moment today to reflect on an aspect of God’s character revealed in Scripture or nature. Write it down and thank God for that revelation. Then, identify a mystery or unanswered question in your life. Pray for the faith to trust God with the unknown, remembering that His plans are perfect even when they are hidden from you.

Today’s One Thing

Pray: “Heavenly Father, I stand in awe of Your greatness and the many ways You reveal Yourself to me. Thank You for the wisdom and knowledge You have shared through Your Word and creation. Help me to trust You with the mysteries and the unknowns in my life, knowing that You hold all things in Your perfect hands. Amen.”
