Letting Go of the Former Things
We all have parts of our past that we wish we could forget—mistakes, regrets, and moments that fill us with shame or sorrow. Yet, in Christ, we are given a fresh start, a new identity, and the power to leave the past behind.
Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
— Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV
The journey of faith often involves a process of healing from our past. It’s easy to get stuck in cycles of guilt or to believe that our mistakes define us. But God, in His infinite mercy,
offers us something far greater: a new beginning. When we accept Christ into our lives, we are reborn, washed clean by His sacrifice on the cross.
Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us not to dwell on the past, but to look forward to the new things God is doing in our lives. Just as God promised to make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert for the Israelites, He promises to bring renewal and hope into our lives.
Trust in God’s ability to transform your circumstances and lead you into a brighter future.
Discover the freedom and peace that comes from embracing your new identity in Christ, leaving behind the chains of past mistakes and regrets. In Christ, you are no longer defined by your past mistakes. You’re a new creation, filled with His grace and love.
As you reflect on your own life, remember that God’s grace is sufficient to cover all your sins and shortcomings. You are not the sum of your past mistakes. You are a beloved child of God, called to live in the freedom and newness of life that Christ provides.
Today’s One Thing
Take a moment today to write down any past mistakes or regrets that you’ve been holding onto. Pray over this list, asking God to help you release these burdens. Tear up the paper as a symbolic act of letting go and embracing your new identity in Christ.
