His Peace during Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving often brings a blend of joy and busyness. This holiday gathers us around tables and connects us with family and friends, reminding us of the blessings we’ve received. Yet, with all the preparation and gatherings, you might feel a tug on your heart that contains a little stress, a longing for peace that goes beyond the day’s events and people.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

– Psalm 118:24 ESV

When you focus on God, you realize that peace isn’t in perfect plans or flawless dinners. It’s not about creating the ideal holiday setting. Instead, you find peace when your mind and heart rest in God’s presence. The world may swirl around you, but keeping your thoughts fixed on God’s goodness allows you to experience His peace. This peace calms your stress or anxiety, shifts your perspective, and fills you with genuine gratitude, regardless of how the day unfolds.

God’s peace belongs to you all the time, and it’s especially important to remember during hectic times.

When you consciously choose to keep God at the center, thankfulness flows more naturally. It becomes less about the external and more about the internal state of your heart and mind. You start to see God’s hand in every detail, such as the sight of loved ones gathering, the warmth of a shared meal, the fun of playing board games, and even the quiet moments when folks have departed. In this posture, your heart overflows with thankfulness, not because everything is perfect, but because you trust in the One who holds everything together regardless of the occasion.

When you focus on God, Thanksgiving becomes a time of reflection and fun. It’s more than a holiday; it’s an opportunity to embrace gratitude. When you fix your mind on God, you’re not just giving thanks for what’s on the table but for the peace and love that comes from knowing Him and what He provides.

Today’s One Thing

Thank God for being the source of all you need and for the peace that guards your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. After thanking Him, affirm, “I choose to keep my mind and heart focused on God, trusting Him to guide and fill me with peace and thankfulness.”
