Being Present at Home
Balancing work and family life is a challenge many of us face, especially when professional commitments pull us in different directions. Singer, songwriter, Mac Powell offers us a valuable perspective on finding balance. He shared, “When I’m home, I try to be home.” His words remind us of the importance of being fully present with our loved ones.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
– Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
When you’re at home, are you truly present? Or do the pressures and distractions of work follow you through the door? It’s easy to let work overshadow your family time, but God calls you to serve and cherish your family as an essential part of living out your faith.
Our verse today encourages us to dedicate our work to the Lord, but it also reminds us to keep our priorities in check. By setting boundaries, we ensure our families receive the attention and love they need.
Presence matters more than perfection.
You can apply this wisdom in your life by creating intentional boundaries between work and home. Here are some practical steps to consider:
- Set specific times for work and stick to them.
- Communicate with your family about your work schedule and involve them in planning quality time together.
- Limit work-related calls and emails during family time.
- Engage in activities that allow you to bond with your family, such as meals, games, or outings.
Let God’s Word guide you in creating a home filled with love, presence, and intentionality.
Today’s One Thing
Say: I choose to be present with my family, prioritizing their needs and cherishing our time together. I will set healthy boundaries between work and home, and I will serve my family as an essential part of my service to God.
