The Joy of Simple Things
Jason Gray’s easy secrets to happiness
Over the years, Jason Gray has become a significant voice in contemporary Christian music, using his own experiences to connect with and inspire listeners on their spiritual journeys.
Jason talked with us about how he has found joy in the simple, everyday moments of his life. From deepening relationships to exploring new hobbies, his approach to finding joy offers valuable lessons for us all.
The Joy of Relationships
For Jason, relationships are not just a part of life—they are a source of deep fulfillment and happiness. “As I get older, I’m more and more grateful for the miracle of friendship.” He expresses a growing appreciation for the people in his life, recognizing the profound impact that strong, supportive friendships can have on our overall well-being.
Discovering New Joys Through Hobbies
In addition to the joy he finds in relationships, Jason has also discovered new pleasures in everyday activities, particularly cooking. “I’m really enjoying learning how to cook…I’m really digging in on it right now.” It’s become a source of creative expression and relaxation for him.
The act of preparing a meal, especially when done with someone you care about, can be a joyful and fulfilling experience.
Even the easiest activities can bring us joy when we approach them with intention and an open heart.
Whether it’s trying out a new recipe, enjoying the process of preparing a meal, or sharing it with loved ones, these moments offer opportunities for connection and contentment.
The Joy of Music and Creativity
Of course, music remains a central source of joy in Jason’s life. As a seasoned artist, he continues to find fulfillment in creating and sharing music with others. But in recent years, his approach to music has shifted. “I’m in a season of my life where I feel like I’ve demonstrated what I want to demonstrate about what I can say as an artist…So I feel like I don’t have as much to prove this time around. And so I’m just kind of having fun with it, you know, in a way that I haven’t before.”
His new focus on enjoying the creative process, rather than striving for external validation, offers a powerful reminder that joy often comes when we let go of our need for approval and simply embrace the things we love.
Finding Joy in the Present Moment
Throughout the interview, a recurring theme in Jason’s reflections is the importance of being present and appreciating the simple pleasures of daily life. Whether it’s through relationships, hobbies, or creativity, his joy comes from engaging fully with the present moment and finding contentment in the here and now.
As Jason puts it, “Living life with good people” is one of the keys to experiencing true joy. By slowing down and appreciating the simple things, we can find joy in the everyday.
As you go through your day, take a moment to pause, look around, and find joy in the little things—they are the moments that truly matter.
