Faith That Rubs Off

You know someone whose faith sticks with you. Their prayers feel like fire and peace all at once. Their words carry weight because their life backs them up. They don’t just talk about Jesus; they live faith-filled lives.  And when you spend time with someone like that — somehow, someway—they influence you. God uses people like this to sharpen you, challenge you, and raise your faith.

And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.”
– 2 Kings 2:9-10 ESV

Elisha walked closely with Elijah, learned from him, watched how he listened to God, and stood firm when others bowed out. And when it came time for Elijah to leave, Elisha boldly asked for a double portion of his spirit. Elisha understood the power of faithful mentorship and didn’t want to settle for anything less than all that God had for him.

You need people in your life whose faith makes you better. Godly mentors, wise friends, and older believers who have carried responsibilities and challenges you haven’t walked through. Their stories carry weight because they’ve wrestled through a gauntlet of obstacles. They’ve learned how to trust God in lack, rejoice in the ordinary, and hold their tongue when tempted to react. So, when they speak, their words come from that place of tested faith.

Let your faith be the kind that lingers long after the conversation ends.

As God grows you, He’ll place people in your path who can help you spiritually grow, which in turn allows you to one day be the person who someone else needs, what you possess. You may not feel ready, but your faith—your real, growing, imperfect, persevering faith—can rub off on someone else—just like someone else’s faith has rubbed off on you. All you need is a listening ear, humility, and a heart that points to Jesus.

Let God use others to shape you. Let Him use you to shape someone else. Faith multiplies when it rubs off.

Today’s One Thing
“God, thank You for the mentors and friends who have shaped my faith. Help me walk closely with others so that my faith encourages, strengthens, and multiplies in those around me.”
