Hold On When God Feels Distant
Sometimes, you pray, and nothing happens. You work, and nothing moves. You keep showing up, but doors stay closed. You wonder, Where is God? Does He see me? Does He even care?
This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.
– Habakkuk 2:3 NLT
Even those who love God deeply—those pursuing their calling—experience seasons where He feels distant. Blessing Offor shared about his own “hard times” when he was working and still waiting for a breakthrough. Rent was due, and his friends had to help him pay it. He felt like his prayers were hitting a wall. But something else was happening—God was sustaining him in ways he didn’t expect.
Maybe that’s where you are right now. You’re desperate for an answer, but all you see is silence. You keep asking God to move, but nothing seems to shift. You feel far from Him, but just because you don’t feel God doesn’t mean He isn’t near.
God will sustain you—just hold on!
God is working behind the scenes. He’s providing for you in ways you may not even recognize. Sometimes, His provision looks like a friend stepping in with help when you’re out of options. Sometimes, it’s that inner spark—the desire to keep going even when nothing around you says it’s worth it. That’s God. That’s His hand on you.
Blessing said it like this: “In the mornings… I would wake up, and there would still be this burning desire to go to the piano… The joy of going to the piano was still as real as anything, and that sustained me.” God kept his passion alive. He reminded him—“I’m still here. I’ve given you this gift. Keep going.”
That’s what God is doing for you, too. Even in the silence. Even when it feels like nothing is changing. He’s holding you. He’s providing. You can rest. You can trust. You don’t have to figure everything out—you need only wait patiently.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: “Father, I feel like I’m doing everything I can, but nothing is changing. I need you. Even when I can’t see you working, I choose to trust that you are. Help me to rest in you and believe that you are fighting for me. Amen.”
