Shine Where You’re Planted
God’s Spirit is alive in you. Whether you’re clocking in at a job site, walking into a boardroom, standing behind a counter, or serving in your community, your presence matters. The way you treat others, the way you carry peace into tense situations, and the way you hold fast to what is right—even when it’s hard—are traits that represent Christ.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden….In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
– Matthew 5:14, 16 ESV
Christ created you to shine. He said that you are like a city on a hill—visible, steady, unmistakable. This isn’t meant to add pressure but communicates a steadfast blessing. When you show kindness in the middle of chaos, people notice. When you respond with grace instead of sarcasm, you give them a glimpse of heaven. When you show up again and again with a servant’s heart, even in a thankless role, you reveal something eternal.
Your actions may mean telling the truth gently when lies would make things easier. And sometimes, it just means doing your work with excellence when no one’s watching. The Holy Spirit uses those moments, ordinary as they may seem, to push back the world’s darkness and help show His marvelous light.
Let His light shine through you.
You don’t need to switch careers to serve God’s purpose. What if He placed you right where you are, not as a placeholder, but as His ambassador? That desk, that truck, that kitchen, that customer line, that meeting—wherever you work or serve—God is with you. This place is a field ready for hope and in need of His light.
Jesus knew the power of light in ordinary places. Just like the city on the hill, you carry a power of influence just by letting your light shine so others can see your Father in heaven. Your daily rhythms, as ordinary as they may be, are significant. When you love well, work honestly, and speak truth gently, you are doing precisely what He has called you to do: shine where you are planted.
Today’s One Thing
Praise God for what He has given you, and declare, “I will let His love, truth, and hope be seen.”
