Built in the Storm
“In the beginning, God…” (Gen 1:1). That opening line of the Bible is deeply personal—or should be to each one of us. When you long for something new to begin or a storm to pass, God must come first. Especially when thunder cracks and lightning flashes, His presence remains your foundation.
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
– James 1:2-3 NLT
Storms and trials always test what you say you believe. It’s one thing to talk about faith on the calm days, but when the skies darken and comfort disappears, that’s when real faith shows up. And yet, that hard place isn’t wasted. God uses it like a training ground. He’s preparing something in you—steadiness, strength, grit that holds because He’s holding you. That’s the kind of perseverance that doesn’t just get you through the storm but prepares you to stand taller after it.
Joy during trials? That doesn’t come naturally. But it grows when you lean into belief. It comes through repeated trust, through the ache, the uncertainty, the tears you cry that no one sees. Those moments shape you and help define your capacity to trust God.
God is preparing you, and His purpose never sleeps.
You don’t have to like the storm. You don’t even have to understand it. But you can believe—right here, right now—that God hasn’t stepped away. He’s steady in the chaos. He’s faithful in the dark. And He’s stretching your roots deeper, not breaking you. The Holy Spirit will speak truth, but you must listen, especially when your thoughts spiral or when the enemy lies. You’re not being torn down; you’re being built.
Don’t despise your difficult times. Let God prepare you through them. You’ll emerge with a deeper peace and a faith that doesn’t falter every time storms appear and thunder cracks.
Today’s One Thing
Declare, “Even in the middle of life’s storms, I trust that God is preparing me, shaping my faith, and growing my endurance through every trial.”
