Carried through the Unknown
Courage grows as we follow God’s leading—step by step—trusting that His presence is constant and His promises still hold, even when the path is new.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
— Isaiah 43:2 NKJV
Joshua stepped into leadership at a turning point in Israel’s story. The road ahead would test his faith and require steady resolve. What sustained him wasn’t certainty about the future, but confidence in the One who called him forward.
There are seasons that stretch us—moments where we’re asked to lead, to begin again, or to stand firm in unfamiliar places. Joshua knew that feeling. Following Moses, he would guide God’s people into the land long promised—but still unknown.
God is with you in the hardest places; let your courage come from Him.
God didn’t give Joshua every answer up front. Instead, He gave assurance: I will be with you. That’s the kind of courage Isaiah 43:2 invites us into—courage grown from relationship.
The imagery in this verse is vivid: waters rising, fires burning—and yet, we are not overcome. God stays with us through it all, carrying us when our strength is thin, walking beside us when we’re unsure how to begin.
If you’re stepping into a new place—something that feels bigger than you—remember courage simply requires trust. You don’t need to know everything ahead. You need to know who goes with you.
Today’s One Thing
Father, thank You for leading me into places where I can grow in faith. Even when I can’t see what’s ahead, I trust You to be faithful. Give me courage to keep following You. Amen.
