Joy in Serving Others

Something magnificent happens in your heart the moment you step in to help another person. Serving brings you face-to-face with the surprising joy that rises when you give more than you receive.

And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.
– Acts 20:35 NLT

The kind of joy Jesus gives runs deeper than happiness—it’s steady, rooted in Him, and it doesn’t fade with circumstances. When you serve, you’re moving in step with God’s heart, because Jesus Himself said He came to serve.

Think about the moments when you’ve lifted a burden for another. Perhaps it was lending a listening ear, mowing a neighbor’s yard, helping a single parent with groceries, paying an electric bill for a needy family, or offering an encouraging word to a colleague. Even the most minor things you choose to do can ripple far beyond what you see. They plant seeds of hope in others, and in doing so, stir joy in your own soul. The Holy Spirit breathes life into those moments and reminds you that serving is a delight, a living expression of the grace God has given you.

When you serve others, you move in step with the heartbeat of Jesus.

There is an intangible, yet real, sense of joy in serving others. Giving redirects your heart toward God’s abundance and allows you to recognize His goodness in fresh ways. You discover that joy is something God places within you as you open your hands and serve in love.

Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. The task was humble, but the joy it brought was holy. When you bend low to lift others, you find yourself lifted higher in spirit. That’s the mystery of grace. When you give, you receive more joy, more peace, and more of Christ’s presence in your life.

Today’s One Thing
Look for one person today you can bless in a simple way. As you do, declare, “I find joy in serving others, knowing that in giving more than I receive, I reflect the heart of Jesus and discover His unshakable gladness.”
