Serving with True Gladness
If you’ve you ever witnessed a child’s act of chivalry, such as holding a door for someone carrying heavy bags, you know that simple act carried more joy than a grand speech could. The heart of those who serve with gladness shines brightly in those everyday moments where love meets action.
Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
– Psalm 100:2 NLT
The psalmist reminds us that serving the Lord with gladness is a vibrant act of worship. When you carry joy into your service, you bring the presence of Christ into ordinary spaces. A smile shared, a kind word spoken, or a burden lifted, all become special moments where heaven’s love touches earth.
Think of the times when someone served you with a compliment or an act of kindness. Their joy flowed beyond the action—it filled your mind, lifted your spirit, and touched your emotions, reminding you that you matter and that you’re seen. In the same way, your glad service becomes a witness that God is alive and active through His people.
True gladness flows from the Spirit, fueling every act of love.
Jesus lived this out in every step of His ministry. He spoke to and listened to those shunned by others. He also healed the sick, fed the hungry, and welcomed children into his arms. He served with deep contentment, joy, and pleasure flowing from His love for the Father. When you follow His example, you reflect His heart to the world. You are showing others that He is alive, moving, and generous.
As you lean on the Holy Spirit for strength, and you allow His joy to fuel your actions. When you do, people notice the difference, but you notice that you are simply the conduit for His love. Serving with gladness becomes your testimony, your way of shining light into places that need hope.
Today’s One Thing
Choose to bring gladness into the ways you serve. Affirm, “I will serve with gladness, letting the joy of Christ shine through my words and actions as a witness of His love.”
