The Generosity Challenge

Teaching your family to live with open hands

What if we raised our children and grandchildren to see generosity as a joy? Not as something we do when we have extra—but as a way of life that flows from knowing God?

In the Bible, generosity is always about trusting God to meet our needs as we meet the needs of others. When you have a heart of generosity, you see people through God’s eyes—giving our time, kindness, forgiveness, prayer, and presence to other —as gifts.

God has been so generous to us, and now we get to reflect His heart to the world.

This 7-day challenge will help your family put generosity into action—one small, simple step at a time. Each day includes a hands-on idea and a short story from the Bible that shows how God works through everyday people to bless others. You’ll find that giving can be joyful, creative, and even fun when it flows from a heart that wants to love like Jesus.

So gather your family around the dinner table, in the car, or during bedtime to talk through each day’s challenge. Let this be a week that shapes hearts, strengthens faith, and opens eyes to the everyday ways we can bless others.

Day 1: Give Encouragement

Leave a kind note on a mirror, a lunchbox, or a neighbor’s door.

From the Bible
Barnabas, whose name means “Son of Encouragement,” helped others feel seen and believed in (Acts 4:36–37). He even stood up for Paul when others were afraid to trust him.

Just like Barnabas used words to lift people up, your words today can remind someone that they’re not alone and that God sees them too.

Day 2: Give Time

  • Sit with someone who feels lonely.
  • Help without being asked.
  • Spend 15 minutes playing or listening fully.

From the Bible
Martha welcomed Jesus into her home and gave Him her time and care (Luke 10:38–40). Even ordinary acts of service mattered to Him.

Time is one of the best gifts you can give—it shows people they’re important.

  Day 3: Give Generously

  • Donate something you love,
  • Venmo someone $5 with a verse
  •  Bake and deliver a treat.

From the Bible
The Macedonian believers didn’t have much, but they gave joyfully and freely (2 Corinthians 8:1–3). Their hearts were rich in generosity.

God cares more about your heart than the amount you give. When you give joyfully, it makes Him smile.

Day 4: Give Hospitality
Invite someone for cocoa, dessert, or playtime—or drop off a surprise to brighten their day.

From the Bible
Lydia welcomed Paul and his friends into her home and helped start the church in Philippi (Acts 16:14–15). Her home became a place of hope.

Opening your home—or sharing what you have—can help someone feel safe and loved.

Day 5: Give Prayer

Think of someone hurting and pray out loud for them together. Then send them a note.

From the Bible
Epaphroditus traveled far to bring encouragement and support through prayer (Philippians 2:25–30). His love and prayers made a difference.

Prayer is powerful—even when we can’t fix something, we can ask God to help.

Day 6: Give Forgiveness

Talk as a family about someone you might need to forgive—or say “I’m sorry” to.

From the Bible
Joseph forgave his brothers, even though they hurt him deeply (Genesis 45:4–8). He chose healing over revenge—and God used it for good.

Forgiveness is hard, but it sets your heart free. It’s one of the most generous things you can give.

Day 7: Give with Joy

Pick your favorite way to bless someone today—and remember to do it cheerfully!

From the Bible
“God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7 RSV). Giving from the heart reflects His nature.

When we give with joy, it spreads! People can feel the love behind your gift.

Giving together as a family—even in small, simple ways—creates something powerful: an atmosphere of love, joy, and trust in God’s provision. Generosity grows one moment at a time. Let this challenge be the start of something your family carries far beyond this week.
