Loving the Overlooked
Love grows strongest when it reaches those outside of your comfort zone, the unnoticed. When you open your eyes to people others often pass by, you begin to see the face of Jesus in unexpected places. Every act of kindness becomes a precious opportunity to love like Him—deeply, sincerely, and without condition.
For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.
– Matthew 25:35-36 NLT
What does love feel like to you? When someone gives you a gentle smile or sends a kind message, doesn’t the everyday seem lighter, or maybe warmer? That same warmth flows when you become the giver, when your kindness reaches someone forgotten or unseen.
Jesus repeatedly chose to reach out to those others avoided—the sick, the outcast, the lonely. He saw beauty and worth where no one else looked. He gave love freely. And you too are called to love with His mercy, to see with His eyes.
Every time you notice the overlooked, you reflect the heart of Jesus.
The overlooked are often right in front of you—a quiet coworker, a neighbor eating alone, a cashier with tired eyes. When you slow down and ask the Spirit to help you see, He opens your heart to notice. Loving the overlooked is most often found in small actions that whisper, “You matter.”
Keep your heart open and receptive. Ask Jesus to help you love beyond what feels comfortable. Your smallest act of kindness holds eternal significance. Heaven observes everything. Each time you show compassion, you serve Him—and those moments become blessings filled with worship.
Today’s One Thing
Ask the Lord to help you see the overlooked and declare to yourself, “I reflect Christ’s love each time I notice the unseen.”
