Faith in the Unknown

Rhett Walker on Trusting God When the Next Step Feels Unclear
By Intentional Life Media | LIFE in Session

Faith is often at its strongest when you say “Yes” before knowing the outcome. For Christian artist Rhett Walker, this season has been about walking through open doors with courage, even when the road ahead feels unfamiliar, because he knows God is already there.

“There’s been a sadness involved because we hate the closing of a door,” Rhett shares. “But there’s been a lot of joyful fear in the opening of a door that’s coming… where I’ve had to prayerfully walk through something going, ‘Man, I need You to show up because I don’t know what’s next.’”

Stepping Forward in Trust
Sometimes following God means saying yes without feeling ready. For Rhett Walker, those decisions have often come when life felt settled — and the next step felt risky.

“There’s been times in our family life where we’re going, ‘You’re really wanting us to move? Like, we’re settled’” he shares. “So I think it’s just honestly been through prayer and going, ‘I’m going to trust that the Lord is faithful,’ and ‘I’m going to trust that that is constant,’ and that is good, because He’s given me no other reason.”

That kind of trust isn’t always instant. It’s a daily choice to believe God’s character over what fear might say.

“There’s been multiple seasons that we walk through in my family where we’re going, I’m reluctant to this, and that’s what my human nature says,” Rhett explains. “But as a believer, I’m going to choose to believe what I know to be true in this—that You’re always good.”

That perspective brings peace that carries through both the known and the unknown.

Overcoming Fear
The Word of the Lord encourages us not to fear all throughout the Bible. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV).

While this verse can be comforting, it’s also active assurance. And Rhett is living that kind of trust in real time.

Peace Lives on the Other Side of Obedience
If you’re standing in front of a new door and wondering if you have what it takes, let Rhett’s story remind you that you already do because you’re not stepping alone.

Obedience is powerful. Even when it feels small, it opens the way for God’s peace to meet you in real ways.
