From Fearful to Bold
A life filled with the Holy Spirit transforms hesitation into courage. When God’s Spirit lives within you, your faith moves from words to action.
He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
– John 14:17 NLT
Courage within you can change everything. When you become aware of God’s Spirit within yourself, your heart fills with a confident clarity, and your thinking begins to carry an assurance that did not exist when you solely placed your trust in yourself. Without question, this awareness is an awe-inspiring and humbling feeling that helps you make decisions and fortify your next steps.
Jesus prepared His disciples for this transformation. He promised the Father would send the Holy Spirit to live with and in them. As He promised, the Spirit would guide them into truth, strengthen their hearts, and remain with them continually.
After Jesus’ crucifixion, the disciples were visited by Jesus from time to time, but they were still unsure of what the future held. However, on the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled them, their fear turned into courage (Acts 2:1-4). Peter, once hesitant and uncertain, stood before crowds and spoke about Jesus with remarkable boldness.
The same Spirit who empowered those first Jesus followers now lives in you (if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior). His presence does more than comfort your heart; He strengthens your faith to live openly for Christ, providing you with the assurance to be bold.
The Holy Spirit provides inner strength to all Christ followers.
You may recognize moments when you sense the Spirit’s prompting. A conversation opens with someone who needs encouragement and a listening ear. Perhaps a scripture comes to mind when a friend is searching for hope. A gentle conviction nudges you to act with kindness and patience. The Spirit utilizes the fruits He has given you to minister to others in a meaningful way.
As you trust the Spirit’s leading, let His courage eliminate fear and apprehension. The same power that transformed the disciples on Pentecost continues to strengthen you today. As you walk with Him, notice fear losing its grip and bold faith shining through your words, choices, and actions.
Today’s One Thing
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to encourage someone today. As you listen for the Spirit’s direction, affirm, “The Holy Spirit lives within me, guiding my steps and empowering me to live boldly for Christ.”
