Strength in the Thorn
Like the Apostle Paul’s thorn, you may be living with something persistent, humbling, and impossible to ignore. God often uses the very things that make you feel weakest to reveal His strength and deepen your faith.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
– 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV
A thorn in your life captures your full attention. It presses in just enough to remind you that true strength doesn’t come from control or confidence.
Paul understood this kind of tension. He prayed more than once for the removal of his thorn, hoping for relief. Instead, God offered something greater than relief. He provided sustaining grace. God entrusted Paul with extraordinary revelations and a powerful ministry.
Your thorn might show up as a physical ailment, a personal limitation, or a struggle that keeps drawing you back to prayer. It may not be seen by others, but its presence teaches you where true strength lives. God the Father allows seasons like this to anchor your trust in Him. Your thorn does not disqualify you. It shapes you as you depend upon God and His leading.
God reveals strength through the places where you feel the weakest.
God’s grace changes the way you see your struggles so that your thorn does not have power over you. As you pray about your thorn and release its difficulties to the Lord, you begin to notice how God sustains you, steadies your heart, and builds perseverance within you. What once felt like a burden becomes a reminder that you never walk alone and you are loved.
Your thorn may remain for a season or a lifetime, yet God’s grace remains more faithful and consistent than anything you experience. Each day holds an opportunity to experience His strength flowing through you in ways you never expected.
Today’s One Thing
Release your “thorn” to the Lord in prayer, and affirm, “God’s grace is sufficient for me, and His strength is at work in every part of my life.”
