Jesus Withdraws to Recharge

It is good to revitalize and recharge. Even during meaningful work, Jesus chose quiet times with the Father. These moments capitalized on Jesus’ wisdom to refresh and deepen His focus. You, too, can find lasting strength when you step away to reconnect with God.

But [Jesus] would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
– Luke 5:16 ESV

Throughout your day, energy ebbs and flows as demands grow and opportunities appear. People need you, responsibilities stack up, and your schedule can feel like it never pauses because you are significant. Right in the middle of it all, Jesus demonstrated the importance of personal and spiritual rejuvenation.

Jesus lived with purpose and compassion. Crowds gathered, lives changed, and needs surrounded Him constantly. You would think that, because of His spiritual authority, He would stay in the middle of it all, squeezing in every moment of impact for others. Instead, He stepped away to recharge. He withdrew to quiet places to pray, to reconnect with the Father, and to be refreshed from the inside out.

God the Father never intended for you to run on empty. Jesus shows you what a relationship looks like—personal, intentional, and life-giving. The Holy Spirit gently nudges your heart, reminding you that time with God is your source of strength.

When you create space for God, you are able to settle your thoughts, refocus your perspective, and become anchored again. You begin to recognize what truly matters and release what does not.

Recharging requires stepping away with God.

Jesus withdrew because He knew exactly what mattered most. You can choose to step away before you feel depleted. A quiet walk, a few minutes in prayer, or simply sitting still with God can realign your heart.

God meets you in the quiet so you can walk back into your day different—clearer, steadier, and strengthened from within.

Today’s One Thing
Choose to step away to a quiet place—maybe your closet, a park bench, your car, or during an early morning walk—and pray. While doing so, affirm, “God renews my strength, refocuses my attention, and keeps me grounded.”
