Evidence for the Road Ahead

Whatever you’re walking into today, God has already proven Himself faithful. Every step along the road to date, He’s carried you. And it’s evidence of His commitment to continue to be there with you for the road ahead.

Then Samuel took a rock and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer [Rock of Help] and said, “Until now the Lord has helped us.”
— 1 Samuel 7:12 GW

In our verse today, Israel had just come through a battle they had no business winning. The Philistines advanced. The odds were impossible. But God intervened—thundering against the enemy, throwing them into confusion, turning the battle completely in their favor. When it was over, Samuel picked up a stone and drove it into the ground right there on the battlefield.

That stone served as a physical act of remembrance. It marked the very place God showed up to remind them each time they passed by, “We were in over our heads, and He came through. This stone stands as proof.”

Every place God has brought you through is evidence that He’ll be there. Remember those times, and let them fuel your courage for what’s ahead.

Samuel understood the human heart needs markers. The further we move from a rescue, the dimmer the memory becomes. The stone of remembrance was God’s answer to it.
Go back.
Reflect on what happened here.
Remember who showed up.
Let the faithfulness of God in that season speak directly into this one.

The discipline of remembrance can serve you today just as it served Israel. Your Ebenezer doesn’t have to be a literal stone—a journal entry, a list, a conversation with a trusted friend where you trace God’s faithfulness through the hardest seasons of your life. Where did He show up when the odds were impossible? How did He provide when you couldn’t see the way? What did He bring you through that you couldn’t have navigated alone?

Stack those stones. They’re your evidence.

Look back before you look forward today. Let what God has already done give you the courage to trust Him with what’s ahead.

Today’s One Thing
Take five minutes today to write down three specific moments when God came through for you. Date them if you can. These are your stones of remembrance—and your courage for the road ahead.
