When Calling Requires Patience

God develops your character as you pursue His purpose and patiently wait for Him to reveal the next step in your calling. Seasons of delay are not wasted years; they are opportunities for God to equip you for what He has already prepared for you.

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
– Genesis 50:20 ESV

Fresh delicious popcorn goes through a process before it ever reaches your taste buds. The heat must build before each kernel pops into something completely different than what it appeared to be. God often works in a similar way as He shapes your character and prepares you for His calling. As life happens and you follow God’s will, you encounter excitement and challenges that lead you to callings in your life.

As a young man, God gave Joseph dreams that pointed toward a significant future. His dreams sparked hope, but the path unfolded like nothing Joseph expected. He experienced betrayal by his brothers, slavery in a foreign land, false accusations, and years in prison. Each chapter in his life seemed disconnected from the promise God made in his dream. Yet through every hardship, God continued to shape Joseph’s character and strengthen his trust.

God never abandoned Joseph during those waiting years. He used every circumstance to develop leadership, wisdom, humility, perseverance, and dependence on Him. The prison became a classroom. The setbacks became preparation. The delays became part of the process.

Perhaps God has placed a calling on your heart, yet the doors remain closed. Perhaps you feel ready, while circumstances seem unchanged. Waiting can feel uncomfortable because you naturally want movement and progress. God sees something greater than the immediate moment. He understands exactly what needs to be developed within you before the next step unfolds.

God’s preparation happens in places where His promises seem far away.

Patience is trusting God while He completes His work in you. Every prayer, every act of obedience, and every faithful step matters. God uses these moments to shape your heart even when visible progress appears slow.

Your calling is not on hold while you wait. God actively prepares you for the callings ahead. Trust His timing, remain faithful, and allow Him to complete the work He has begun. The season you are in right now is a very special place where God is building the foundation for your greatest impact.

Today’s One Thing
Give God thanks for His timing and development in you. Affirm, “I embrace God’s preparation and believe He is faithfully guiding me.”
