Extraordinary Gifts

Your gifts are specific to your calling. Bezalel never preached a sermon, but God called him by name, filled him with the Spirit, and put a chisel in his hands for one reason: his gifts were the point.

I have chosen Bezalel from the Judah tribe to make the sacred tent and its furnishings. Not only have I filled him with my Spirit, but I have given him wisdom and made him a skilled craftsman who can create objects of art with gold, silver, bronze, precious stones, and wood.
—Exodus 31:2-3 CEV

God desired a physical place where His presence would meet His people. For that specific work, a tabernacle, made with caved wood, hammered gold and cut stone, He called Bezalel, son of Uri, of the tribe of Judah, to be the craftsman.

God’s words to Moses were specific. He had called Bezalel by name. A call is deliberate, intentional, by design. Bezalel’s gifts were the point. God filled him with His Spirit, equipped him with ability, intelligence, and knowledge, and set him to work building the place where His glory would dwell.

The gifts you carry—the practical ones, the behind-the-scenes ones, the ones you’ve never quite seen as spiritual—God sees them the same way He saw Bezalel’s. They are your calling.

God fills you with exactly what His calling requires; your gifts point to what He’s already prepared for you.

The Holy Spirit fills you with your specific gifts, abilities, and capacities to build something. Maybe it’s a home, a classroom, a conversation, a business, or a meal. Whatever you’re making, tending to, or leading in your ordinary life, the Spirit who filled Bezalel fills you.
And the same God who called Bezalel’s hands to build the place where His presence would dwell calls your particular hands to the specific work only you can do.

The tabernacle Bezalel built was meant to carry God’s glory into the world. So is yours.

God calls you with the gifts you already have. The work is ready, the Spirit has equipped you, and what He put in your hands is there on purpose. Use what you have. Build what He’s asked you to build. That’s what calling looks like in practice.
