A Jesus Encounter – One Woman’s Frequency of Faith

A woman called during a recent fundraiser to give. A devoted Family Life Radio (FLR) listener, she shared with the voice on the other end of the phone, “I had a breakdown and haven’t worked for years … And if I didn’t have my family and Family Life Radio, I don’t know what I would do.”
If you’ve never struggled with mental health issues, you can’t imagine a life burdened by severe depression. It often leads beautiful people into despair, isolation and even suicidal thoughts. Jesus said, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This woman is not alone. Even when it felt like there was no one else, Jesus was with her, reaching her through the message.
She boldly shared, “I suffer from severe depression … I had a time when I couldn’t even take showers to get out of the house. I work in the medical field. … I haven’t able to help people like I want to since then.”
It has been hard for her to see the light. But through her faith, support of her family and the comforting presence of the Lord found in the messages you help broadcast through FLR she sees a silver lining.
But the day this woman called to give a gift to FLR, she found herself in a good place, overcoming a recent bout of depression, seeing a counselor and feeling supported by her family. She knows that Jesus walks with her in these challenging times. Psalm 23:4 promises, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (NIV).
Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV). You can face your struggles head-on with the power of your belief in Christ. She is proof that with God, you can overcome and be used for His glory, even in the midst of trials.
You might find the right song at the right time, offering you comfort and reminding you of God’s steadfast love as you experience FLR. Live intentionally for Christ and let His light guide you through even the darkest valleys.
