Creating for God’s Glory
Mac Powell on Making Your Efforts an Offering
In a candid interview with Family Life Radio, singer, songwriter, producer, and musician, Mac Powell, shares invaluable insights from his journey as a musician and follower of Christ.
Whether you’re familiar with his music or hearing about him for the first time, Mac’s offers encouragement that can help you grow in your faith and overcome life’s challenges.
Embrace Humility in Your Faith Journey
When asked how he feels about people who haven’t heard his music, Mac’s response is refreshingly humble. “There’s a whole lot more people in this world who don’t know who I am and have never heard my music. So that doesn’t bother me at all.” What a powerful reminder for us to find contentment in the audience God has given us, no matter how large or small.
Your worth is not defined by recognition but by your relationship with God.
Mac’s morning routine highlights the importance of personal worship. “I’ll get up in the morning, I’ll go walk for about an hour, and I pray while I’m walking. .”
Dedicated time with God can rejuvenate your spirit, provide clarity, and foster peace. Making a habit of setting aside regular moments for prayer and worship transforms your daily routine into a sacred encounter with God.
Create for God First
In his creative process, Mac prioritizes offering his efforts to God. “There are definitely times where I go, ‘Lord, this is for you.’ I don’t even finish the idea.” By focusing on creating for God first, you shift your perspective from self to service. Trust that if something is meant to be more, God will guide you accordingly. This approach allows you to release control and let your work unfold according to His will.
Let Go and Trust God
Learning to let go and trust God’s plan can be challenging but is essential for peace and assurance. Mac shares, “If that’s what it’s supposed to be, the Lord will give it back to me and remind me of it.”
By surrendering your anxieties and trusting in God’s sovereignty, you open the door for His perfect timing and purpose in your life.
Find Joy in Small Beginnings
Mac’s surprise when people recognize his music highlights the joy in small beginnings. “I’m actually surprised when someone does really know who I am or [knows] my music.”
Celebrating small victories and humble beginnings reminds you that every step in your journey is valuable. In God’s eyes, every effort to serve Him is significant, no matter how small it may seem.
The Power of Worship Songs
Worship songs hold a special place in Mac’s heart. He often sings, “‘Lord, I Need You, I Need You’ … It’s almost a perfect prayer. I sing that often to the Lord.”
Using worship songs as prayers can deepen your connection with God. Songs like “Lord, I Need You” and “Goodness of God” are powerful tools for expressing your heart to God, articulating your dependence on Him in moments of worship.
Staying True to Your Calling
Mac’s journey from the band Third Day to solo artist reflects his commitment to following God’s call. “I did country music for a few years independently when Third Day was over … and there’s a message in it that I love.”
Staying true to your calling, even when it leads you down new paths, is essential. Be open to how God might use your talents in different ways and trust that He has a purpose for every season.
