Be a Light in the Darkness

What is darkness? It is the absence of light.

Some days, the world seems dark and dreary. You see the brokenness around you—hurting people, harsh words, and a culture that often celebrates everything except encouragement and truth. It’s easy to wonder if your small efforts to live for Christ make a difference. But they do. Jesus didn’t rise from the grave so you could hide in the shadows. His resurrection calls you to shine, reflecting His love, grace, and truth in a world desperate for hope.

Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
– Titus 2:7-8 ESV

How you speak, act, and respond to others reveals whether Christ’s light shines through you. Your workplace, your home, and the traffic you drive in become places to display the love of Jesus.

When you let your light shine, you point people to Jesus. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus tells believers to shine so that others may see their good works and give glory to God. Your kindness in difficult situations, your integrity when no one is watching, and your willingness to forgive when it’s challenging are the ways His light breaks through the darkness.

Jesus is the light for a dark and fallen world.

Is your light flickering? Maybe you’re weary from the struggle or wonder if your faith makes a difference. Stay close to Christ. The more time you spend in His Word and prayer, the brighter you shine. The light you carry isn’t your own—it reflects the One who conquered sin and death and offers hope and love.

Darkness cannot overcome the light of Christ. The resurrection of Jesus proves that He has captured victory. You simply have to be willing to let your light shine. Shine boldly. The world needs His light, and He has chosen you to carry it.

Today’s One Thing
Declare today, “I will shine for Christ, reflecting His love, truth, and grace in all I do. My life will glorify God and point others to Him.”
