Courage to Say Yes
Imagine standing in a small boat in the middle of a storm, waves crashing around you, wind whipping through the darkness—and then hearing Jesus call your name. That’s where Peter found himself. He didn’t wait for the waves to stop; with courage he stepped out in faith even while they roared.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
— Joshua 1:9 NKJV
When he saw Jesus walking on the water, Peter didn’t wait for the storm to calm. He said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And when Jesus simply said, “Come,” Peter obeyed.
What a moment of bold faith! But not long after stepping out, Peter noticed the storm. Fear crept in, and he began to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!”—and Jesus immediately reached for him. The Savior didn’t scold him for stepping out. He caught him in love.
God calls us to courage, and He promises to be with us every step.
How often do we feel that nudge from God to do something outside our comfort zone—join a new group, start a conversation, pursue a dream—but hesitate because the wind is still blowing? Courage says yes, even when the waves are high, because we trust the One who’s calling.
Jesus invites us to take a step. His hand is already extended. His presence is constant. And His strength will steady us when our own falters.
Today’s One Thing
