From Shepherd to King
Your greatest calling often begins in hidden places. What if the most important work God is doing in you right now is something no one else can see?
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
– 1 Samuel 16:13 ESV
Has God ever placed a promise in your heart that your circumstances haven’t confirmed yet? That tension between what He’s said and what you can see is often where He does His deepest work.
Think about David, a young shepherd faithfully doing what no one celebrates. Then a prophet arrives, oil in hand, and everything shifts. In a single moment, David is anointed, yet, according to some scholars, he waited 10-15 years before becoming king. But the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him with power. He knew something big was going to happen, and he needed to embrace change.
Like David, you steward your season of preparation by embracing it as sacred. You treat small assignments as training grounds for greater responsibility. You cultivate character and integrity during your daily responsibilities. You allow the Holy Spirit to strengthen your inner life long before anyone sees outward fruit. During this time, the Father shapes your heart, and the Spirit empowers you quietly and steadily.
Preparation in private allows God to do His deepest work in you before He does His greatest work through you.
Your current season carries divine intention. God sees you in the pasture. He pours His Spirit on you with purpose. You grow in patience, humility, and courage today so you can lead with wisdom tomorrow. Your preparation is not wasted; it is sacred ground where leaders are formed.
While you may not be called to be a king, God directs the timing for His purpose in your life. Respond with trust, obedience, and praise. Embrace your daily tasks as much as the ultimate platform because both belong to Him.
Today’s One Thing
Pursue your daily responsibilities with excellence, viewing them as preparation for what God has in store for you. Tell yourself, “I believe God is shaping me in hidden places for His greater purpose.”
