God’s Dwelling Among His People
There’s something powerful about standing with other unified believers and worshiping God together. When you gather with others who love Jesus, you step into a sacred space. Sure, it may be in a brick-and-mortar facility, but more importantly, it’s the unity of His people. The Church is a holy reality—a living expression of Christ’s body—where you and other believers in Christ get to live and worship together.
What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
– 2 Corinthians 6:16 ESV
Since the beginning of creation, God has never been distant or removed. His desire has always been closeness. He doesn’t just visit; He makes His home with His people. That’s what Paul wanted you to understand in 2 Corinthians 6:16. God walks with His people, speaks to them, and lives among them. With that truth, the Church becomes more than a gathering—it becomes a dwelling place where He resides.
Where two or more are gathered in His name, He is there (Matthew 18:20). When God resides with you and other believers, you become an integral part of His presence. His Spirit shapes your thoughts, aligns your heart, and surrounds you with His grace. You grow spiritually when you’re rooted in a community of believers who seek God. You hear His voice more clearly when others echo His truth in love.
God dwells among His people who trust and worship Him.
The Church helps you thrive and strengthen your relationship with God. You might walk into your church gathering carrying burdens or doubts, but you leave reminded that you don’t stand alone. God strengthens and encourages His people through His people. You’re created to live in step with others —shaped by the Spirit and encouraged in the place where God dwells—His Church.
Amazing things happen when believers gather in God’s name and worship Him. Within His dwelling, He shapes, speaks, and builds you up. Through worship, prayer, conversation, correction, and comfort shared in community, you become more like Him.
Today’s One Thing
Think about your community of believers and affirm, “God dwells with His people, and as part of His Church, I welcome His presence to shape, strengthen, and encourage me as we journey together.
