Jesus Celebrates Progress, Not Perfection
“Religion only celebrates perfection. But Jesus, I feel Him celebrating progress in our lives, you know, and He’s not done with any of us yet.” – Mike Weaver
Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.
– Hosea 6:3 NIV
We live in a world that constantly measures success by perfection. Whether it’s in our careers, relationships, or even our faith, there’s an unspoken pressure to “have it all together.” When we fall short, we feel like failures. When we struggle, we question whether we’re good enough for God.
But the gospel tells a different story. Jesus never demanded perfection from those who followed Him. Instead, He called them into a journey of transformation—one step at a time.
Jesus isn’t standing over you with a clipboard, grading your performance. He’s walking beside you, celebrating your growth.
Spiritual growth is a process. As we press on—step by step—God meets us with His presence and refreshes us along the way. He doesn’t demand that we have it all figured out; He simply invites us to keep coming back to Him.
Think about Peter. He was impulsive, outspoken, and sometimes got it completely wrong. He sank when he doubted (Matthew 14:30), he denied Jesus (Luke 22:61-62), and he even struggled with hypocrisy later in ministry (Galatians 2:11-13). And yet, Jesus didn’t discard Peter for his failures. Instead, He restored him, called him, and used him to build His church. Peter wasn’t perfect, but he was progressing. And that was enough for Jesus.
Maybe today, you feel like you’re not where you should be. Maybe you keep stumbling in an area of your life, and you wonder if God is tired of your mistakes.
Take heart—He’s not finished with you. Like the spring rain in Hosea 6:3, His grace keeps refreshing you, keeps reviving you, and keeps drawing you closer. Jesus isn’t standing over you with a clipboard, grading your performance. He’s walking beside you, celebrating your growth.
So instead of being weighed down by where you’ve fallen short, rejoice in how far He’s brought you. Keep going. Keep growing. Keep pressing on. Because Jesus is celebrating every step.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: Lord, thank You for loving me even in my imperfections. Help me to see my journey through Your eyes—not as a failure, but as a work in progress. Help me press on, knowing that as surely as the sun rises, You will meet me with grace. Amen.
