Joy through Tears

Can mourning really make room for joy?

Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
– Psalm 126:5 NKJV

Grief can feel endless—like a gray fog that lingers longer than anyone expects or understands. But Jesus never asked you to bypass your sorrow. In fact, He made it the doorway to one of His promises: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

When Tauren Wells reflected on this beatitude, he reminded us that “Jesus has created the mechanism of mourning to deliver us from the grip of grief.” He didn’t dismiss our pain—He walked through it. He wept. He grieved. He felt every tear we hide from the world.

“Every teardrop is deliverance. Every teardrop is God setting you free one chain link at a time.” —Tauren Wells

Every tear you’ve cried is seen. It’s not wasted. It waters something deep beneath the surface—a harvest of healing, joy, and hope that will come in due time. You’re not broken beyond repair. You’re being remade with every moment of honesty before God.

Don’t rush through your grief. Don’t stuff it down to appear strong. God is strong enough to hold your sorrow and tender enough to meet you in it. Joy is the presence of God in the middle of your pain.

You don’t have to choose between mourning and believing. Faith doesn’t erase pain—it invites Jesus into it. And where He is, joy always follows.

Today’s One Thing
Take five minutes in stillness today. Light a candle, sit quietly, and name what still hurts. Don’t fix it—just offer it to Jesus. Let Him tend to what you’ve been carrying alone.
