Lessons in the Valleys
You’ve walked through valleys that seemed to stretch endlessly, yet something kept pressing forward. That steady strength was faith growing. Valleys reveal what mountaintops never could—how God shapes your trust, deepens your endurance, and softens your heart.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
– Romans 5:3–4 NLT
As you look back on this year, you can probably name moments that stretched you—loss, indecision, or unexpected pain. But even in what felt silent or still, God used every challenge to build endurance, stretch patience and deepen humility. What once felt like resistance now reveals growth.
God often teaches His deepest lessons in the valleys. Struggles become the soil where endurance takes root. Over time, that endurance grows into character that gives birth to unshakable hope. “And this hope will not lead to disappointment” (Romans 5:5 NLT). Your difficulties are the classrooms where God refines your heart, and you deepen your trust. You’ve learned to believe God holds you, and He works all things for your good.
God uses your valleys to grow endurance, deepen your faith, and build hope that lasts.
Valleys are uncomfortable, if not miserable. But your faith today stands taller because of what you faced yesterday. You have more empathy for others, more peace in uncertainty, and more confidence in God’s faithfulness.
The same God who guided you through this year will walk with you into the next. His love is beyond understanding, but always present. He is faithful, steady, and near, cheering you on.
Today’s One Thing
Thank God for every valley this year, and say, “I trust You, God. You are building my endurance and strengthening my character.”
