Live an Authentic Life in Christ
By this time the crowd, unwieldy and stepping on each other’s toes, numbered into the thousands. But Jesus’ primary concern was his disciples. He said to them, “Watch yourselves carefully so you don’t get contaminated with Pharisee yeast, Pharisee phoniness. You can’t keep your true self hidden forever; before long you’ll be exposed. You can’t hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known. You can’t whisper one thing in private and preach the opposite in public; the day’s coming when those whispers will be repeated all over town.”

Live an Authentic Life in Christ
Brené Brown said, “Caution: If you trade in your authenticity for being liked, you may experience the following: anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, rage, blame, resentment and inexplicable grief.”
Are you pretending to be something less or something more than you are? Jesus cautioned his disciples in our verse today to live an authentic life. Some Christians live each day reluctant to shine their light. They remain hidden from the world, reluctant to identify with Christ. Like a light bulb that is never screwed into the power source, their light produces His light, drawing others to God because of how they lived their life.
When the light we have from Jesus is shared, others are called from the darkness into His marvelous light. Your witness of God at work in your life should be public, not hidden.
Today’s One Thing
Think about the opportunities the Lord has given you to shine His light in dark places. Ask Him for a new boldness to stand firm and let others see you as you commit to live an authentic, intentional life in Christ.
