Prayer through Tears
Hezekiah is dying, and he weeps and prays. God’s answer arrives before the day is even over—heard, seen, and healed.
“I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.”
—2 Kings 20:5 NIV
Hezekiah receives a hard word from the prophet Isaiah: “Put your house in order, because you are going to die” (2 Kings 20:1 NIV). He turns his face to the wall and prays, weeping bitterly (2 Kings 20:2-3).
God answers before Isaiah is even out of the palace courtyard (2 Kings 20:4-5). The response is specific: God has heard the prayer, seen the tears, and will heal him. God adds fifteen years to Hezekiah’s life (2 Kings 20:6).
God hears your prayer and sees your tears before you ever see His answer.
Waiting on healing—for yourself, for someone you love—can feel like praying into silence. You wonder if the prayer even landed, or if it’s sitting somewhere unanswered while life keeps moving without you.
God heard Hezekiah’s prayer the moment he prayed it, long before he saw any change. God named exactly what Hezekiah brought Him—the prayer, the tears—and responded specifically to both. Your prayers reach Him the same way. He hears everyone, even the ones you’re praying through tears right now.
Whatever you’re asking God for today, He has already heard it. The answer may take a different shape or a different timeline than Hezekiah’s, but your prayer has already reached Him.
Today’s One Thing
Bring your specific, unresolved prayer to God today, and thank Him for hearing it—even before you see the answer.
