Prepare Your Heart for Christmas
Before the angels sang and the shepherds arrived, there was a young woman who quietly made room in her heart for God’s plan. As we approach Christmas, her story invites us to do the same.
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.”
—Luke 1:38 NKJV
Long before the manger and the star, there was a moment of quiet surrender in a humble home in Nazareth. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, her world was turned upside down. God was inviting her into something that would cost her comfort, reputation, and certainty. And yet, her response wasn’t resistance—it was readiness.
Mary’s words are a powerful picture of what it looks like to prepare our hearts for Jesus. She said, “Let it be to me according to your word.” She didn’t have all the answers. She didn’t know how it would all unfold. But she made room—room for the unexpected, room for obedience, room for the presence of God to take up residence within her.
God still looks for hearts that say, “Let it be to me according to Your word.”
In this busy season, we often prepare everything else—meals, gifts, schedules—but forget to prepare ourselves. Mary reminds us that the truest preparation is all about yielding more. It’s about saying yes to God, even in the unknown.
We may not have angels appearing in our living rooms, but we do have the same invitation: to pause, to listen, and to make space for Christ to be born afresh in us.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: Father, thank You for Mary’s courage and quiet surrender. As Christmas draws near, help me follow her example—not striving, but yielding. Prepare my heart to receive all that You have for me. Let it be to me according to Your word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
