Remember Who Provided
When a prayer is answered, an opportunity opens, or years of hard work finally produce something worth celebrating, success feels good! Those moments call for thankfulness and invite you to remember the Father who gave you the abilities, opportunities, resources, and strength to persevere.
When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.
– Deuteronomy 8:10 NLT
Moses had been in the wilderness for 40 years; he knew Israel was about to undergo a great change; they were about to enter a land of abundance, with plenty of food, water, and natural resources. God wanted them to enjoy what He had provided and to remember what He had given them.
Before entering the Promised Land, Moses offered wise counsel to the Israelites because he understood how easily abundance can reshape perspective. Full stomachs and success can tempt you to think, Look at what I have or to assume I did this. Gratitude matters because it reminds you that God has faithfully carried you through the wilderness and given you the capacity to prosper.
Gratitude keeps success in perspective by reminding you what God has provided.
You worked hard for what you accomplished, and God provided what you needed along the way. He gave you a mind to think, hands to work, people who encouraged you, opportunities you could never manufacture on your own, and strength for days you wanted to give up.
Gratitude allows you to celebrate an accomplishment without making yourself its source. God wants you to celebrate success, and He desires you to remember the journey that He has walked and provided for you. Enjoy your promotion, your growing business, your home and car, or the long-awaited breakthrough, while remembering the ways God provided along the way.
Accept God’s blessings with a grateful heart. Celebrate what has been accomplished, remember the One who provided and made it possible, and let your abundance become another reason to praise God. Your greatest treasure is held secure in Christ, both today and forever.
Today’s One Thing
Make a list of the things for which you are thankful today and name the ways in which God has provided for you. While you are doing this, say aloud, “I am grateful for God’s blessings, and He is the Source of everything I have.”
