Standing Tall Again

For 18 years, a woman couldn’t straighten her back or lift her eyes to meet anyone else’s. Jesus called her forward, healed her, and gave her back more than her posture—He gave her back her place.

“Woman, you are freed from your disability.”
—LUKE 13:12 ESV

She’s been bent over for 18 years—her body curved so far forward she can’t look up. She comes to the synagogue like she has every Sabbath, likely unnoticed in the back, present but invisible.

Jesus sees her. He calls her forward, in front of everyone, and speaks directly to her: “Woman, you are freed from your disability” (Luke 13:12 ESV). He places His hands on her, and she straightens up immediately, praising God right there (Luke 13:13).

Jesus sees you even in the years you’ve felt overlooked.

Maybe your struggle hasn’t lasted 18 years, but you know what it’s like to feel defined by something long-term—a diagnosis, a strained relationship, an exhaustion that never fully lifts. You’ve learned to function around it, to stay present but stay small.

Jesus didn’t just heal this woman’s body. He called her forward, named her, and let her be seen by everyone in that room. Healing restored her dignity along with her posture. He does the same for you—He calls you by name and brings what’s been hidden into the light.

Whatever has kept you bent low, Jesus calls you forward today. He sees the years, and He still says, “Stand up.”

Today’s One Thing
Bring the specific thing you’ve carried the longest to God today, by name, instead of managing it quietly on your own.
