Step Out of the Busyness
It can feel like someone or something is always pulling at you—the never-ending list, the appointments, the family needs, the work deadlines. Even your quiet time can start to feel like another item to check off. But God’s Word speaks a gentler truth. Strength doesn’t come from doing—it comes from rest in His stillness.
In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.
— Isaiah 30:15 NKJV
Isaiah 30:15 offers a countercultural truth that can be hard to receive in our productivity-driven world. The people of Israel, much like us, often looked everywhere but to God for help. His response came as an invitation: “In returning and rest you shall be saved.”
That word returning implies a turning back, a re-centering of our hearts. And rest? It’s the action of choosing to trust. It’s holding fast to the belief that God is at work even when we’re not.
In a culture that rewards hustle and hurriedness, God calls us to something deeper—a life rooted in stillness, trust, and intimacy with Him.
Quietness and confidence—they don’t come from crossing off every item on our list. They’re born in the moments we choose presence over performance. Jesus modeled this beautifully. Despite the demands on His time, He often retreated to be alone with the Father. He knew the power of rest, not just for His body, but for His spirit.
What would change if you gave yourself permission to live that way? To embrace rest as worship? God is not glorified in our burnout—He’s glorified when we live in rhythm with His grace.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: Lord, I admit that I often run at a pace You never asked of me. Teach me how to return—to rest, to trust, to be quiet in Your presence. Help me find confidence not in my accomplishments, but in Your faithfulness. Let my life reflect Your rhythm of grace. Amen.
