The Difference in Altitude
Have you ever looked out an airplane window, gliding above the clouds at 30,000 feet above the earth, and felt something shift? The world below—normally so loud and pressing—seemed still. Roads curved like the slow stroke of an artist’s paintbrush. Mountains looked like they were resting. And cities became patterns, instead of pressure points.
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
– Colossians 3:2 NKJV
At that altitude, everything feels softer, simpler, and perhaps even more full of grace. It’s as if being lifted up changes the posture of our souls.
God knows how much we need that shift. Life on the ground is full—of people we love, responsibilities we carry, and unexpected turns we navigate. And while none of those things disappear when we rise, they can take on a deeper and higher sense of God’s presence.
A difference in altitude shifts more than your view; it shifts your heart.
Colossians 3:2 encourages us to “set our mind on things above.” When we shift our focus from the temporary to the eternal, we find perspective. The difference in altitude reminds us that we don’t need the answers to everything.
We just need to experience God’s presence, where His peace reorders what feels chaotic and His beauty reawakens our hope.
Today’s One Thing
Find five quiet minutes today to rise above the noise. Step outside, sit in stillness, or listen to worship. Ask God to lift your perspective to see it all through His eyes.
