The Gift of Life
John walked with Jesus. He watched Him live, heard Him teach, and witnessed what real life actually looks like. Then he spent the rest of his life telling everyone what he saw.
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life.
– 1 John 5:11-12 NIV
John wrote these words as a man who had seen the answer with his own eyes. He walked alongside Jesus for three years. He watched Him turn ordinary moments into eternal ones—a meal, a conversation, a fishing boat, or a grieving friend. At the end of his life, this is the testimony John couldn’t stop telling: God has given us that life—the same life that lives in His Son.
John watched Jesus turn ordinary moments into something eternal. That’s the life God gave you.
The Greek word John uses for life is zōē—life in its fullest, most vibrant sense. The kind of life that has weight and direction and meaning woven all the way through it. The type of life that stays steady when circumstances get hard. He wanted every reader to understand that God made that same life available to you.
That means the meaningful, purposeful life you’re longing for is Someone you already have. Every ordinary moment, from the hard conversations to the mundane Tuesday afternoon, becomes something more when Jesus is in it.
You were made for more. God knew that when He gave you His Son.
Today’s One Thing
Choose one ordinary moment today and invite Jesus into it with this prayer: “Jesus, You are my life. Show me what it looks like to live fully in You today.”
