The Holy Spirit’s Flame
We see the Holy Spirit in Scripture often represented as fire, symbolizing God’s presence, power, and purification. Like a fire that warms your heart and stirs your soul, the Spirit moves in ways that remind you of God’s love at work in your life.
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
– Hebrew 12:28-29 ESV
Consider Moses standing before the burning bush in Exodus 3:2. The fire was not an ordinary flame. It burned but did not consume the bush. Through this miraculous sight, God revealed His presence to Moses, calling him to a divine purpose. In the same way, the Holy Spirit ignites a fire within you, calling you closer to Him and equipping you for His purposes.
God’s holiness burns away impurities and draws you toward a life committed to Him. The Holy Spirit works as this refining fire, removing what hinders your walk with God and making you more like Christ. The process may feel uncomfortable, especially when conviction rests on you, but through it, you grow in faith, holiness, and courage. When you open your heart to the Spirit’s refining work, you experience God’s transformative power in ways you never thought possible.
Embrace God’s fire as evidence of his active presence.
Here’s the caution: How often do you resist the Holy Spirit’s prompting by ignoring His convictions, resisting His guidance, neglecting the spiritual gifts He gave you, or fostering a spirit of disunity among other believers? Ouch! When you stifle the Holy Spirit’s work, you miss His guidance’s beauty and power’s fullness.
God wants you to step closer, and let His fire burn brightly. As you fan the flame of the Spirit in your life and feed His flame with Scripture, you’ll find a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper connection to God’s work.
Today’s One Thing
Read God’s Word and embrace the Holy Spirit’s work in you. Affirm, “I welcome the Holy Spirit to fill me with God’s presence, equip me with His power, and refine me to be more like Christ.”
