What Rest Teaches Us
When you release the pressure to provide for yourself, you begin to experience the peace of trusting the One who always does.
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
— Isaiah 30:15 NKJV
Corbin from Texas knows what it’s like to push hard and keep going. As someone who’s self-employed, long hours were his norm. He shared that in the past, he’s worked six-week stretches without a single day off. But recently, something shifted. “I’ve been called to a sabbatical right now. For the past 6 weeks, I have not had any income.”
That kind of pause—especially when income depends on your own output—requires trust. It interrupts everything the world teaches about security and achievement. And yet, Corbin sensed God leading him deeper into rest and dependence.
“The sabbatical is fasting from working so much. I feel like God has been telling me that I don’t have to work so much to provide for myself—He is my provider.”
God invites you to trust Him to provide what you need.
True rest—the kind that restores body, mind, and heart—comes from the assurance that God is the one sustaining us. And sometimes, the only way to learn that is to stop.
Corbin shared: “I started feeling like I should give [to Family Life Radio] on Wednesday, and this morning, I knew I just needed to do it.”
That’s the fruit of a heart aligned with God’s Spirit-led decisions anchored in trust. When you stop trying to carry it all, you begin to see how much God already has in His hands.
If you’re feeling the pressure to hold everything together, take a breath. You don’t have to earn your peace. You don’t have to chase provision. God is already working, caring for you.
Today’s One Thing
Write out this prayer today: “Lord, I release the pressure to provide for myself. Teach me to rest in You, and remind me that You are my source.” Post it somewhere you’ll see it this week.
