When Promises Feel Far Off

Have you ever felt like you were holding onto promises that seemed far off? Maybe you’ve wondered, God, where are You in all of this?

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

– Galatians 6:9 NKJV

In his 20s, while living in the mountains of North Carolina, Josh Baldwin was serving as a worship pastor but also working as a warehouse manager. He longed for the dreams God had placed in his heart—writing music, leading worship, starting a family—but none of those dreams seemed to be close to coming true.

Remember, the seasons where we feel hidden or forgotten are never wasted.

“I felt a little abandoned, like God wasn’t coming through,” Josh admits. “But then I realized, instead of chasing dreams that weren’t ready yet, I needed to steward what God had given me right where I was.”

During this time of feeling stuck, Josh remembered the last thing God had told him—to be faithful in the role he was already in. As he refocused on pastoring his worship team and serving his church, God began to water the dreams he had been holding onto.

Most of Jesus’ life was spent in obscurity, waiting for the right moment to step into His public ministry. As Josh reflected on this, he realized the importance of not rushing God’s plans. It’s easy to get impatient, but a delay does not mean those things won’t happen. It’s just not time yet.

Today’s One Thing

Take a moment to reflect on the last thing God asked you to do. Are you faithfully stewarding the season you’re in, or are you rushing ahead to the next thing? Commit to being present where He has you now, trusting that He is working behind the scenes on your behalf.
