When We Pray, “Kingdom Come”

If you’ve prayed the Lord’s Prayer for years, chances are “Your kingdom come” rolls easily off your tongue. But have you ever paused to consider what you’re truly asking for? It’s a bold, daily prayer that invites God’s rule, God’s priorities, and God’s ways into the very ordinary spaces of our lives.

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
— Matthew 6:10 NKJV

God’s kingdom is marked by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. When Jesus taught us to pray “Your kingdom come,” He invited us to align our hearts with heaven’s agenda—not just in church; not just in crisis—but in our families, our work, our finances, and our private thoughts.

This prayer gently confronts our need for control. We often want God’s help without God’s rule. We want His peace without surrendering our preferences. But “Your kingdom come” asks, Whose kingdom am I building today—mine or His?

Praying “kingdom come” means opening your heart and saying, “God, have Your way—even here.”

For many of us, this is where the tension lives. We love Jesus, but we also love predictability. We trust God, but we still like backup plans. Praying “Your kingdom come” means your life becomes anchored in Him. God’s kingdom brings order, not confusion; freedom, not fear.

When you pray these words, you’re asking God to shape your responses, soften your heart, and transform your perspective. You’re inviting Him to rule not just your Sunday faith, but your Monday decisions. And slowly, faithfully, His kingdom begins to show up in everything—how you love, how you forgive, and how you hope.

Today’s One Thing
Today, choose one area of your life where you’ve been holding tight—your schedule, a relationship, or a worry. Pray specifically, “Lord, let Your kingdom come here.” Then pause and listen for how He might be inviting you to respond differently.
