When Worship Awakens Your Heart
Sometimes all it takes is one moment—one unexpected encounter—to awaken your heart to the nearness of God. Anne Wilson says a spontaneous worship song changed her life. It reminds us that the Holy Spirit still speaks, still stirs, and still invites us closer.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
—James 4:8 NKJV
At just 12 years old, a Bible teacher at Anne Wilson’s Christian school introduced her to something she’d never truly experienced—the presence of God. Raised in a church where expressive worship was met with judgment, Anne had learned about Jesus—but hadn’t yet encountered Him personally.
“I heard worship music… and that’s the moment I gave my life to Jesus. It was through worship music. It was really sweet.” —Anne Wilson
God still moves in the simple. A worship song. A soft whisper. A sudden awareness that He is near.
Many of us grew up knowing about God but struggle to feel His nearness. How many times have we gone through the motions—church, songs, routines—yet never experienced that heart-stopping moment where God breaks through?
Worship bypasses performance. It doesn’t require eloquence or status. It’s not confined to a building or a Sunday morning. Worship is invitation to draw near to the Father—and He meets us, not with judgment, but with joy.
If your faith feels stagnant, if your heart feels distant, maybe today is the day to pause and simply worship. No agenda. Just a song, a breath, and an open heart. Because when we create space, God fills it—with peace, presence, and purpose.
Today’s One Thing
Find a quiet space today. Put on a worship song that stirs your soul—whether it’s a familiar favorite or something new. Close your eyes and whisper, “Jesus, I’m here.” Let your heart listen. Let the Holy Spirit speak.
