Writing Down God’s Works
When was the last time you wrote down what God has done for you? Yes—actually journaled the ways He’s shown up. A mental list sounds fine, but it usually fades quickly. When you put pen to paper and capture how God moved in your life, you create a written testimony that no one can take from you.
I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.
– Psalm 77:11-12 ESV
Why is journaling God’s works so important? Your heart and mind need a place to reflect on His goodness. When storms blow through and joy feels distant, you need a safeguard, something solid that reminds you who God is and what He has already done. Writing it down builds a testimony your future self can lean on. It pulls memories out of the fog and pins them where you can see them again and again.
A gratitude journal protects your joy and reminds you that you are God’s heir. When you write down answered prayers, surprise provisions, quiet nudges from the Holy Spirit, or breakthroughs you didn’t expect, you stack up reasons to rejoice. Your page might say, “God gave me mental peace today,” or “Provided extra work right when bills were due.” Later, when doubts poke holes in your confidence or fear tries to settle in, your own words will remind you that God is with you and He is faithful.
A gratitude journal protects your joy and proves God’s faithfulness.
How many times has God parted a sea for you, and you moved on without stacking stones of remembrance? Your heart craves those reminders. Writing them down shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s overflowing. The more you record, the easier it becomes to see His fingerprints all over your days. This doesn’t require poetic skill—just honest recognition that God is near and active.
If you’re not someone who journals, start small. Spend just a minute or two writing down blessings, praises, or answered prayers from today. Let your journal catch both the quiet gifts and the breathtaking rescues. Don’t embellish, simply write. When doubts creep in, your clear record will prove God has never been far.
Today’s One Thing
Declare and write down, “I will write down God’s works and celebrate His faithfulness. My gratitude will guard my joy and remind me that His goodness never runs out.”
