World War II POW Panel at National Historic Site – Andersonville

ANDERSONVILLE, GA – Andersonville National Historic Site invites the public to join us in the National Prisoner of War Museum on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM for a special program honoring the brave men and women who endured captivity as prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action.
This year’s POW/MIA Recognition Day program will feature a panel of three World War II former prisoners of war — John Gleen Beville, John Mock, and Herb Sheaner — who will share their firsthand accounts of survival, resilience, and return.
In addition, we are honored to welcome Brian Welke, author of Boys, Just Boys, for a special book signing. Welke’s work tells the story of the 423rd Regiment of the 106th Infantry Division as experienced by the men themselves, offering readers a vivid and personal look at the realities of war and captivity.
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from those who lived through some of the most pivotal moments in modern history. By gathering together to listen and reflect, we honor not only these veterans’ courage and sacrifice but also the memory of those who never made it home.
For those unable to attend in person, the panel discussion will be livestreamed on the park’s official Facebook page, allowing participants to join virtually from anywhere.
