Feeling Like You’re Not Doing Enough?
Here’s What God Says
Almost everywhere you look, you see and feel a constant push to be bigger, better, more productive.
➡ Build your brand.
➡ Make an impact.
➡ Grow your influence.
Even in faith-based spaces, this pressure exists.
Co-author of “Her True Worth,” Britt Maher helps women silence self-doubt, step into their God-given calling, and trust that His grace is greater than their past. She joined the Family Life Radio Morning Show to talk about this.
Britt said, “Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that it’s not so much what am I here to do, but who am I here to be? The rest is overflow. …The truth is, there’s a lot in our culture where everybody’s kind of seeking to have that viral moment and to be seen and noticed.”
Many of us have bought into the lie that if our efforts aren’t big, noticeable, or widely recognized, they don’t matter. But Britt encouraged, “You do not need to be doing more to be significant in the Kingdom.”
Your faithfulness matters far more to God than your visibility.
The Lie: “More is Better”
Social media, career success, and even ministry can make us feel like we have to keep doing more to prove our worth. But Jesus wasn’t concerned with being the most followed, the most liked, or the most praised.
Britt continued, “The world tells us to take up space, but Jesus calls us to serve in humility.” Instead of striving to be noticed, Jesus chose faithfulness. Instead of chasing status, He chose servanthood. If faithfulness was enough for Jesus, it’s enough for us too.
Faithfulness in the Small Moments Leads to Purpose
There’s a lie that keeps so many people stuck—the belief that if something feels small, it must not be important.
But Britt gave us a powerful picture. “I like to think of purpose as a large mural. When you stand back, it’s a masterpiece. But as you step forward, you see each brushstroke. Those brushstrokes are the little moments, the ordinary things—the things we might overlook. But they make up the masterpiece.”
Think about:
➡ The daily choices you make.
➡ The unseen moments of obedience.
➡ The work no one applauds.
They are all brushstrokes in the masterpiece God is painting. “The ordinary is not so ordinary. And when we fixate on waiting for some big moment, we miss what God is doing right now.”
What you’re doing right now matters.
✔ If you’re raising kids, that is discipleship.
✔ If you’re working behind the scenes, that is ministry.
✔ If you’re encouraging one person, that is impact.
“The path that feels small is often the one that leads to something greater.” Many people wait for permission to step into their purpose. They think: I’ll serve when I have more time. I’ll step into my calling when I feel more qualified. I’ll make an impact when I have a bigger platform.
But Britt reminded us, “You don’t have to wait to graduate, get married, or have kids to serve God—you can start now.” God’s not waiting for you to do more—He’s waiting for you to say yes to what’s in front of you today.
What Are You Measuring Your Worth By?
It’s easy to believe that if we’re not achieving something visible, then we’re not making a difference.
God measures impact by faithfulness.
But Britt challenged us to redefine success. “We kind of spin our wheels feeling like, ‘The more I do, the more effective I am.’ But the truth is, you do not need to be doing more to be significant in the Kingdom.”
The world measures impact by numbers, recognition, and scale. But God? He measures impact by faithfulness.
✔ Not how many people follow you.
✔ Not how much you accomplish.
✔ Not how recognized you are.
Just this: Were you faithful with what God put in your hands today?
How to Break Free
If you’ve been feeling like you’re not doing enough or that your work isn’t significant, here’s how to break free from that pressure:
1. Shift your focus from big to faithful.
Instead of asking, Am I doing enough? ask, Am I being faithful?
Brit said, “God’s not measuring your worth by how much you accomplish—He’s looking at your faithfulness.”
2. Show up for the one.
Instead of worrying about how many people see your work, focus on the one person God has put in front of you. She continued, “Showing up for the one is so much better than showing up to be noticed by many.”

This might mean:
✔ Encouraging a friend.
✔ Serving behind the scenes.
✔ Being present with your family.
Small faithfulness leads to greater impact.
3. Trust that your small steps lead to a bigger purpose.
Just because something feels small doesn’t mean it isn’t significant. “The ordinary is not so ordinary. It’s part of a much bigger picture.”
Every act of faithfulness is a brushstroke in God’s masterpiece.
You’re Already Enough
If you’ve been waiting for a sign that your work is enough, this is it.
- You don’t have to hustle for your worth.
- You don’t have to perform for approval.
- You don’t have to be seen to be significant.
You are already seen, known, and valued by God. And that is enough.
